The community of Bahia (buh-HEE-uh) is located in northeast Novato. The area is somewhat isolated geographically in that it is 2.5 miles from the freeway (Atherton Ave. exit), and at the end of a long road with few homes.
Bahia has 288 homes, built during the 1960s and 1970s. The community is close to the Petaluma river and is set amongst wetlands. A deep water lagoon on the eastern side of the neighborhood provides birdwatching for local residents. The bordering open space offers multi-use trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and dog walking.
Residents of the Bahia Homeowner's Association enjoy a clubhouse, pool, and two tennis courts. A long legal battle over dredging the lagoon is over, and the lagoon will not be dregdged.
